My Approach to Tutoring Students with Dyslexia
(or struggling readers)

When I work with students who are dyslexic—or who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia—I use an Orton-Gillingham–based program rooted in the science of how children learn to read. This structured, multisensory approach allows me to tailor instruction to each child’s unique learning profile.

Every child is different, and their instruction should reflect that. For each student, I design a customized scope and sequence that targets their specific needs. Core components often include print handwriting, the alphabetic principle, reading fluency, and spelling. For some students, we also integrate language development, written expression, and comprehension strategies.

A key part of my instruction is teaching students why letters and letter combinations make the sounds they do—rather than asking them to memorize without understanding. Dyslexic learners benefit from knowing the logic behind language. I use a multisensory, discovery-based method that incorporates the Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic (VAK) triangle to actively engage multiple learning pathways. Through guided questioning, students uncover new concepts themselves, which helps deepen understanding and improve retention.

I draw from a wide range of resources and programs to meet each student’s needs. The heart of every session is student-centered learning: my job is to identify what works best for your child and adapt accordingly.

All sessions are one-on-one, allowing me to give each student the focused, individualized attention they deserve. One of the main reasons I started my tutoring company was to provide this level of personal care—something not always possible in larger educational settings.

Parent involvement is also an important part of the process. I welcome and encourage parents to sit in on sessions. This not only supports your child but also equips you with tools and strategies to reinforce learning at home.

Types of Service

Take a few minutes to browse the different tutoring options that I provide. Over the years, I've adapted my offerings as needed to fit the needs of the families who contact me. There are pros and cons to every options, so you have to pick what works best in your situation. This is not a decision for you to make in isolation. When we talk to discuss the needs of your child, we will also discuss which of these options will work for your child.

Struggling to Study? Let Me Help.

Do you—or your child—have a hard time remembering what’s taught in school? Is studying overwhelming or frustrating? You’re not alone, and the good news is: effective study skills can be taught.

As someone who once struggled with learning, I know firsthand how powerful it can be to develop the right study habits. Through years of trial and error, I discovered strategies that worked for me—and eventually built a personalized "Study Skills Tool Kit" that helped me succeed academically.

In my one-on-one study skills tutoring sessions, I share these proven strategies to help students build confidence and take control of their learning.

Here’s how it works:

  • Bring materials from a current class—we’ll use them to apply a specific study strategy.

  • Learn a new technique—I’ll introduce a skill that fits your learning style and can be used across subjects.

  • Leave having already studied—you’ll walk away with one hour of productive study time under your belt and the tools to keep going on your own.

Studying isn’t one-size-fits-all. Everyone learns differently, and part of our work together is discovering which strategies work best for you. My goal is to help you become a more confident, independent learner—one session at a time.
